    Hello Awesome Creative People!
As you all might know, FaceRig is meant to be an open creation platform and we encourage our community to experiment with models and import them in FaceRig as props or avatars.

We've watched the FaceRig Steam workshop grow, but very timidly, at a far slower rate than what we had initially hoped for. A few users have successfully added their creations (Minecraft Steve, SpiderLady and Hatsune Miku) but many (too many) of the creators have run into technical issues and gave up halfway, specially when it came to rigging the model.

Making 3d, fully rigged and animated models is hard work, so we are here to help you! We've cleared more of our lead 3D artist's schedule allowing him more time to look at your models and provide feedback and assistance, if you email your work to artsupport[at]holotech[dot]eu.

In addition to the above, we will also select the top most promising avatars that you want to put on the workshop and will help you with the rigging up to 100%: as in our artists will take your 3D avatar model and do the full rigging for you for free ( as many as time permits). After this is done, we can even upload the newly rigged model to the Steam Workshop for you (if you have trouble doing this yourself).

Oh, I'm guessing this is the thread you wanted to call to our attention. That's really cool of Holotech to offer that! I think this will be really helpful for a lot of people who really prefer the creative process of modeling and texturing a character, and are stymied by the much more technical process of rigging one.

Speaking for myself, though, part of my reason for creating the avatars that I am is so that I can learn the process all the way through. Being able to fully rig a character is a skill that can be applied to all kinds of different projects and it's a skill I would like to develop for myself.

I also haven't really emailed the artists for anything because I don't really feel like I've hit a point where I've gotten 'stuck' yet, and any technical issues I've had so far have been because of my unfamiliarity with Maya's rigging tools - but any questions I have about how to achieve something in Maya are questions that can be answered on 3d artists forums, which is where I have been going for help. I think when I reach a point where I need to import something is when I'll start emailing artsupport.

    Thanks for the link jujubi.
I am kind of in the same boat that Dawnchapel is in at the moment. That is that I haven't hit any walls yet and that I simply require the time to put into creating my avatar. However I will most definitely do some back and fourth with the artists at Holotech to see if I can't get a better grasp on avatar creation with Facerig in mind.

I love how much effort you guys/girls put into your community by lending a hand and actually putting effort into them. You put in effort to the community, unlike other companies who simply do it for a profit, and don't care about their fanbase.

I have a model I would love to be able to use in the program, but to be quite blunt about it, I have never rigged one to animate before. While I think I can figure out how to rig the body without too great an amount of trouble, rigging the face and mouth is a totally different, and far more complicated, story. I'll definitely be emailing you guys about it.
So, should I send the whole folder with all the textures and such? Or just the .obj or .fbx file?
Since I probably won't get a reply very quickly on here just to be safe I think I'll send the whole folder and hope that was the right decision.

    Hi,
The 3D model is not yet complete , you will need to send the 3D artists, collada and tga files. You can find the necessary documentation to make your own model right in FaceRig :"<Steam Library Folder>\SteamApps\common\FaceRig\Bin\Tools\Docs\" . Also it is available on Steam forum here with the old importer http://steamcommunity.com/app/274920/discussions/6/613936673299658599/ and here using the new importer http://steamcommunity.com/app/274920/discussions/6/485622866436709756/

No idea how to get collada and tga files, not even sure what files would have to be saved in those formats. Also they aren't included in any of the default options and it has been my experience that attempting to save a file in a format other the default options simply by typing in the format extension results in a corrupted file that nothing can open or use.

Do you use Maya or Blender for 3D models? You should have collada file export option.

I used "Mixamo Fuse" to make him, it has been acquired by Adobe and they are marketing the new version(with a free "Preview" through their "Creative Cloud"), but the old version is completely free and on Steam. In addition to making the models you can also use an "autorig" function on their site, whether through the program's "File" menu or through logging onto the site manually. I found out the hard way that if the the neck is too short on the model it messes up and anchors their chin to the collarbone so it stretches when the model turns its head so a short-necked model like that fellow up there has to be done manually instead.

Basically the way it works is you assemble the closest preset pieces to what you want, then customize all the features, colors, and textures until you get it just how you want it, after that you use the auro-rig feature and you're done...provided the model has a long enough neck for it to do properly anyway.

This is another I did in it that DOES have a long enough neck for the auto-rig to work: "Katya in modern clothes" (Katya is one of my OCs)

From what i can see Mixamo should have the option to download in standard Collada format (.dae). The 3d models need to come in collada/tga files to be integrated into FaceRig, with the exact naming like in the documentation, depending on the importer you use, the old or the new one.

If I remember right I saw one labeled ".dae" among the options but didn't realize that was the Collada extension. I'll be sure to use that. Thank you for the info.

Pet peeve of mine, but I hate when people list something by name without saying what the file extension for it is because too often the programs list the extension but not the name so I have no way to know to associate the two. ><

    Hi everyone!

We've managed to clear the schedule of one of our artists to take care of the rigging process for community avatars.
If you have textures lowpoly models you can send an email to artsupport[at]facerig[dot]com.
Depending on how well the model is made and how Facerig-ready it is, the rigging will take between 2 to 4 days. We are beginning with the models we consider to be more complete than others and work one model at a time.
Please don't forget that avatars rigged by us should be made available on the workshop, even though their creators can keep a private skin for their own if they choose to.
    Looking forward to you models!

P.S. If you work in 3dsmax or Maya, you can send us native files (*.max, *.mb, *.ma). Otherwise the .dae requirement still stands.

    Hi,

Are you referring to our latest contest https://facerig.com/index.php?optio...ne-year-of-facerig-contest&catid=9&Itemid=128 ?
If you win the first prize, your original sketch will be turned into a 3D mode. For the second prize, it will be turned into a 2D model and yes it will be available for free in FaceRig.

I understand that your to busy to make custom 3d avatars but can you point me to someone who can? I am wanting to build a persona around this avatar and premade ones would not work as others could use it at anytime. I fully understand that is a lot of work and would cost a decent amount of money but as the videos and streming i would be doing would cover this cost. If you could please point me to someone or at least a guild of some sort on what i need to ask out of designer if i find one on my own. ( Side note I would be willing to work out a sponsorship deal of some sort in exchange for work done. )
